Group Therapist
Melissa Samuel is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Midtown, Manhattan who specializes in treating anxiety, depression, relationships, work stress, life transitions, family planning, support for chronic illness as well as grief and bereavement. She works with a wide range of clients ranging in age from 18-65.
Melissa particularly enjoys working with couples utilizing an attachment-focused, relational approach (AEDP) Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy as well as EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy). Some of the common challenges she works on with couples are difficulty with communication, changes in intimacy, navigating life as empty-nesters, increased anger, betrayal of some sort, and preparing for marriage or working though divorce.
Melissa’s work with individuals includes Psychodynamic Therapy as well as providing Mindfulness techniques and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) skills to help her clients develop helpful tools and strategies.
Melissa’s style is warm and collaborative. Before moving to private practice, Melissa worked in a wide range of settings, including inpatient and outpatient mental health centers, hospitals (psychiatric and medical), schools and family court.
