Group Therapist
Misty Farber is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who is based in Sherman Oaks, CA and has been in practice for over 15 years. Misty works with individuals throughout their lifespan that have experienced trauma. Many of Misty's clients are often high achieving and take on too much and come in when things have become completely overwhelming. Misty is sensitive to clients facing changes in their lives, such as moves, marriages, or transitioning to new life stages when the delicate balance can seem to become fragile and symptoms creep in like anxiety, panic and self-doubt.
Misty's approach is guided by evidence-based practices for the treatment of trauma. Most notably, she uses EMDR to get to the root of the issue so that clients can make meaningful and lasting change. In the beginning, Misty helps her clients to build a foundation for treatment by creating a list of troubling memories, review attachment styles and builds in coping to be able to tolerate reprocessing of past memories so that they no longer linger as if they're happening today. Then throughout the treatment clients will identify negative beliefs about themselves based on those memories and replace those with preferred beliefs. After that, a body scan is completed to clear out any stuck material in the body. Clients often report that this process feels like "magic" and that it is very helpful to feel more calm, free and excited about life.
Misty's first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and hopeful that change is possible. As a seasoned telehealth provider, she offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy accessible and convenient from the comfort of your own home.
