Women's Support Group for Trauma/PTSD

Description

This group provides support and a welcoming space for women who have experienced traumatic events. Trauma often leads to feelings of alienation and isolation. Here you will find opportunities to share and connect with others who have also had scarring experiences. This group is the right fit for a woman who is looking for a safe space to belong and welcome support around everyday stress and problems, while maintaining a curiosity about the deeper issues and underlying pain. Additionally, you will learn practical strategies that will help you improve your relationships and cope more effectively with overwhelming emotions. The topics discussed include (but are not limited to) relationships with family, friends, and partners; sexuality; professional life; empowerment; work-life balance; anxiety; life transitions; and the impact of trauma on everyday life.

Group Therapist

Dr. Justina Dillon is a licensed clinical psychologist, an accredited EMDR practitioner and supervisor, an experienced IFS therapist, and a certified DBT therapist with offices in the Herald Square neighborhood of Manhattan and she additionally offers online therapy in NY, MA, and the UK. She works primarily with adults struggling with trauma and PTSD, including complex PTSD, addiction, anxiety, depression, and dissociative disorders.

Many of Dr. Dillon’s clients come to see her for anxiety and depression related to childhood trauma, traumatic events that happened in adulthood, addiction, dissociation or relationship difficulties. Her focus in treatment is to resolve these issues and help clients live more fulfilling lives. She achieves this goal by offering a two-pronged approach: 1) maintaining focus on the day-to-day challenges and addressing them with practical solutions while 2) simultaneously working towards increasing inner peace by processing the causes of emotional pain, anxiety, and disconnection. Her therapeutic style is warm, nonjudgmental, and active.

Dr. Dillon’s approach to trauma therapy is highly integrative, drawing on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, and Skills Training in Affect and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR). She is also well versed in other evidence-based modalities, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her life-long interest in learning has resulted in a versatile therapeutic toolbox that allows her to tailor treatment to each client’s needs.

Dr. Dillon received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University and has been in practice for over 10 years. She is the founder of InnerWeave Psychology in Manhattan and dedicates half of her time to pro-bono supervision and training of other clinicians, both in the US and in Europe.
