Practice Information

At Geek Therapeutics, we believe therapy works best when it reflects who you are. Rather than expecting clients to fit into a traditional therapy model, our clinicians build treatment around your personality, interests, strengths, and goals. We specialize in working with gamers, geeks, creatives, and individuals who have often struggled to find a therapist who truly understands their world.

Our team of licensed therapists, psychologists, and psychological evaluators provides compassionate, evidence-based care for concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, trauma, life transitions, and more. We also offer comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments to help clients gain greater clarity about their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.

Whether we incorporate video games, tabletop roleplaying, fantasy, science fiction, or other aspects of geek culture into treatment—or simply create a space where your passions are understood without explanation—our goal is the same: to help you build meaningful, lasting change. We offer both in-person sessions in Northern Virginia and telehealth appointments, accept most major insurance plans, and strive to make therapy feel welcoming, collaborative, and authentically you.

FAQS

What services does your practice offer?

Geek Therapeutics offers a full range of mental health services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. In addition to psychological assessments, our clinicians provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy tailored to each client's goals, using evidence-based approaches alongside each person's unique interests and strengths. In addition to traditional therapy, we're known for our innovative, geek-centered groups, including therapeutic tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) groups using games like Dungeons & Dragons, as well as video game-based social skills and emotional regulation groups. These interactive experiences help participants build communication, confidence, problem-solving, emotional awareness, and meaningful relationships in engaging, supportive environments. Whether you prefer a traditional therapy setting or are looking for a more immersive, interest-based approach, our team is committed to helping you find the path that fits you best.

What are your practice's specialties?

At Geek Therapeutics, our clinicians have experience supporting clients across a wide range of mental health needs and life experiences. We specialize in working with ADHD, autism, anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, OCD, stress and burnout, executive functioning challenges, emotional regulation, social skills, and self-esteem. Our team also has extensive experience helping military members, veterans, and military families navigate the unique demands of military life, including deployment, relocation, family transitions, and reintegration. We provide affirming care for LGBTQIA+ individuals, support children, teens, and adults through life transitions and identity exploration, and offer psychological evaluations to help clarify diagnoses and guide treatment planning. Whether you're seeking support for everyday challenges or more complex mental health concerns, we strive to provide compassionate, individualized care that meets you where you are.

Why should I choose your practice?

Choosing a therapist is about more than finding someone with the right credentials—it's about finding a team that truly understands you. At Geek Therapeutics, we combine evidence-based mental health care with a genuine appreciation for the hobbies, communities, and stories that shape our clients' lives. Our clinicians don't just tolerate interests like gaming, tabletop role-playing, anime, comics, cosplay, or science fiction—they recognize them as meaningful parts of identity that can become powerful tools for growth, connection, and healing. We take an affirming, strengths-based approach that values authenticity over fitting into a mold, creating a space where clients feel understood rather than judged. Whether you're seeking traditional therapy, psychological testing, or one of our innovative geek-centered groups, you'll find compassionate professionals dedicated to helping you build practical skills, overcome challenges, and create a life that feels true to who you are.

How does payment work at your practice?

We believe quality mental health care should be as accessible as possible. Geek Therapeutics is in-network with many major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Aetna, United Healthcare/Optum, Sunrest, Cigna, TriCare, Medicare (state dependent), Medicaid (state dependent), and UMR. If you're planning to use insurance, our team can help verify your benefits before your first appointment so you have a clear understanding of any out-of-pocket costs. For clients without insurance or those who prefer not to use their benefits, we also offer an affordable private-pay option, with therapy sessions currently starting at $100 per session. If you have questions about coverage, payment options, or finding the best fit for your needs, we're happy to help guide you through the process.
