Practice Information

Northstar Recovery Center - "Northstar" - is a leading provider of substance abuse and mental health services, offering Day Treatment (High-Intensity Outpatient) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) therapies both in-person and virtually. With locations in Southborough and West Springfield, Massachusetts, we support individuals and families impacted by substance misuse, mental health and co-occurring disorders with personalized care, evidence-based therapies, and compassionate connection.

Grounded in the belief that recovery is possible for everyone, we create a safe and empowering environment where clients can heal, grow, and reclaim their lives. Our programs emphasize authenticity, clinical excellence, trauma-informed care, and a strong recovery community, including ongoing family support and a vibrant alumni network. Much of our staff has lived experience overcoming addiction or mental health conditions, or has someone in their immediate family who has struggled. We aim to be a beacon of light in the darkness of substance and mental health disorders, where every individual and family may discover hope for a better future.

Northstar delivers clinically robust mental health therapies and addiction treatment, is accredited by BSAS and The Joint Commission, and verified by LegitScript. Our team includes highly qualified professionals—MSWs, LICSWs, LCSWs, LMHCs, and LADCs—who bring advanced training in EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Jungian and Adlerian psychology, and more. Our clinicians are deeply committed to understanding each client’s unique experience, blending traditional therapeutic frameworks with specialty techniques to support meaningful, lasting recovery. Whether someone is navigating co-occurring disorders, trauma, or early recovery challenges, our team meets them with skill and compassion. At Northstar, clinical excellence isn’t just a standard—it’s the foundation of everything we do to guide individuals and families toward hope, healing, and sustainable change.

FAQS

What services does your practice offer?

Our levels of care include Day Treatment (High-Intensity Outpatient/PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), with in-person and virtual options available. We offer program tracks for substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and dual diagnosis. Treatment is rooted in evidence-based, person-centered care and delivered by a multidisciplinary team using modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, trauma-informed therapy, EMDR, motivational interviewing, and experiential approaches like yoga therapy. We also offer psychiatric medication management, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), group, individual, and family therapy. By addressing both addiction and underlying mental health concerns, we create individualized treatment plans that focus on stability, insight, connection, and sustainable change.

What are your practice's specialties?

Our specialties center on treating the whole person—not just the symptoms. We specialize in addiction and dual diagnosis care, supporting individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and mood disorders. Our team has deep expertise in trauma-informed treatment, relapse prevention, and early recovery support, with programming tailored for adults navigating life transitions, chronic relapse, or complex clinical needs. We also place a strong emphasis on family involvement, offering education and support to loved ones, and on long-term recovery through community connection, alumni support, and skill-building that extends well beyond discharge.

Why should I choose your practice?

Choosing Northstar Recovery Center means choosing care that is both clinically strong and genuinely human. We combine evidence-based treatment with a compassionate, person-centered approach, taking the time to understand each individual’s history, needs, and goals. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates closely to address addiction, mental health, and underlying drivers of relapse in an integrated way—not in silos. With flexible levels of care, strong family and alumni support, and a focus on long-term stability rather than quick fixes, Northstar offers more than treatment; we offer guidance, connection, and a clear path forward for sustainable recovery with lifelong support.

How does payment work at your practice?

We work with individuals and their insurance plans to make treatment as accessible as possible. Most major health insurance plans are accepted, and our admissions team will verify your benefits before you begin so you understand what’s covered and what your out-of-pocket costs might be. We also offer options for private pay when needed, and strive to help clients explore all available resources to reduce financial barriers to care. During the pre-admission process, we explain how your coverage applies to levels of care like Day Treatment (PHP) or IOP and help tailor a plan that fits both your clinical needs and your payment situation.
