Professional statement

Dr. Christopher Hoffman is a board-certified psychiatrist and founder of Alignment Psychiatry, a private-pay mental health and performance practice based in Washington, DC. He works primarily with professionals, leaders, and high-achieving individuals who are used to performing at a high level—but may privately feel overwhelmed, burned out, or disconnected from themselves. Many of his clients are navigating anxiety, ADHD, leadership pressure, relationship strain, or major life transitions. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, Dr. Hoffman helps people step back and understand the deeper patterns shaping how they think, respond to stress, and make decisions.

His approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and direct. Dr. Hoffman integrates talk therapy, psychiatric expertise, and performance-focused strategies to help clients better understand how their mind works under pressure. Together, they explore ways to improve emotional regulation, sharpen decision-making, and restore a sense of clarity and control. Medication can be helpful for some individuals, but it is never used in isolation. The goal is to develop insight and practical strategies that support both personal well-being and professional effectiveness.

Dr. Hoffman completed medical training at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine, followed by residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry, a specialty focused on the intersection of human behavior, decision-making, and the law. This background gives him a unique lens for understanding complex interpersonal dynamics, high-stakes environments, and the psychological pressures that often come with leadership and responsibility.

Through Alignment Psychiatry, Dr. Hoffman provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, therapy integrated with medication management, and mental performance coaching. His practice is private-pay and does not accept insurance, allowing for longer sessions, greater flexibility, and a more personalized treatment experience. He offers both in-person appointments in Washington, DC and secure virtual sessions for clients who prefer remote care.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to being the person others rely on. Many of the people I work with are high-performing professionals who are excellent at solving problems for everyone else but rarely get the space to think about their own lives with the same level of care. My hope is that our work together gives you that space—time to step back, understand how your mind works under pressure, and make thoughtful decisions about how you want to live and lead.

Our sessions are collaborative and practical. We’ll talk openly about what’s happening in your life, explore the patterns shaping your stress and relationships, and work toward strategies that help you feel clearer, steadier, and more in control. Medication can be a useful tool when appropriate, but it’s never the whole story. My goal is not just to manage symptoms—it’s to help you develop insight and alignment between who you are, what matters to you, and how you move through the world.

Before starting, it’s also helpful to know that Alignment Psychiatry is a private-pay practice and does not accept insurance. This allows for longer sessions, greater flexibility, and a more personalized approach to care. If you’re looking for thoughtful, collaborative work focused on both mental health and life performance, you may find that this approach fits well.
