Dr. Abu Muhammad Nasim is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in New York City. Dr. Abu specializes with working with adolescents and young adults who are learning to cope and adjust to new life challenges. There isn't a magic guidebook that teaches young adults how to balance school/career, family obligations, and their personal lives. Dr. Abu offers expert support and guidance based on the individual needs of the client, whether they are struggling with anxiety, depression, or dissatisfaction with life. He is trained to be sensitive to the socio-economic, and cultural, and spiritual backgrounds of clients. He is proficient working with BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color), and clients who identify as LGBTQ+. Dr. Abu is trained to understand client conflict in relation to systemic and cultural biases, such as sexism and racism.
Dr. Abu brings a non-judgmental and open atmosphere to therapy. His counseling style utilizes techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. He focuses on teaching clients’ practical skills they can apply to their current challenges in life, and to future challenges they may face. Moreover, he helps clients develop insight into the causes and source of their stress. He assists in identifying maladaptive habits and creates plans to build healthy habits. Dr. Abu understands the importance of bringing joy and humor to therapy. He aims for clients to feel more empowered and joyful after each session.
