Professional statement

Dr. Alex Kohl is a licensed psychotherapist (LPC #009495) and PhD-level clinician who specializes in anxiety, depression, addiction, neurodivergence, and major life transitions. His approach blends evidence-based treatment with real-world practicality so clients can make meaningful progress both in and outside of sessions.

Alex believes therapy should feel human, not clinical or scripted. He uses warmth, humor, and honest conversation to help clients feel comfortable opening up about difficult emotions. His goal is to create a space where people feel seen, understood, and supported while also being encouraged to grow.

Throughout his career, Alex has served as Clinical Director at multiple mental-health and substance-use facilities, and he later built and operated his own private practice. These leadership roles reflect a commitment to high-quality care, client dignity, and making mental health treatment accessible without losing the human touch.

An accomplished researcher, Alex has published peer-reviewed papers and presented at national conferences on mental fatigue, cognitive recovery, biofeedback, and relapse prevention. His academic expertise strengthens his clinical work and allows him to pair compassionate care with scientific credibility.

At the heart of his practice is genuine connection. Alex helps clients improve communication, understand themselves more deeply, build healthier relationships, and live in alignment with their values. His philosophy is simple: therapy should feel real, collaborative, and empowering—because change happens when people feel free to be themselves.

Message to clients

I keep therapy human—no judgment and no pressure to be perfect. You can show up exactly as you are, even if you don’t know where to start. My hope is that you feel seen, heard, and supported while we work toward real change. We’ll use honest conversation, evidence-based strategies, and a bit of humor to help you grow with confidence.

I work with adults facing anxiety, depression, addiction, ADHD, autism, relationship concerns, identity questions, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are figuring themselves out, trying to communicate better, or learning how to manage negative self-talk. You don’t need a perfect story or a perfectly explained reason for being here—just the willingness to be real. Together, we’ll build insight, strengthen communication skills, reduce anxiety, and help you understand yourself in a deeper, more compassionate way.
