Professional statement

Dr. Cathy Bykowski is a clinical health psychologist who helps people break the cycle between life stress and physical health problems. Stress, burnout, and emotional strain often show up in the body—leading to poor sleep, weight changes, high blood pressure, or challenges managing chronic conditions such as diabetes. At the same time, health concerns can take a toll on mood, motivation, relationships, and daily routines, creating a frustrating cycle. Dr. Bykowski specializes in supporting individuals who want to better understand the mind-body connection, manage stress more effectively, and reconnect with what matters most.

Dr. Bykowski believes therapy should be both compassionate and practical. She draws from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy. These modalities provide concrete tools for navigating stress, reshaping unhelpful thought patterns, regulating emotions, and strengthening motivation for meaningful change. Sessions are collaborative and tailored, with the goal of helping clients feel more in control of their well-being—physically, emotionally, and behaviorally.

Dr. Bykowski earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of South Florida, where she studied how stress and depression impact health. She went on to serve Veterans in VA Medical Centers, where she collaborated closely with patients and healthcare teams to address the effects of illness, pain, and life experiences. These experiences deepened her respect for the many ways health shapes people’s lives and inform her integrative approach to care.

Dr. Bykowski offers individual therapy in person in Fort Washington, PA and via telehealth to all of PA and most other US states. Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, allowing clients to attend therapy from the comfort and privacy of their own space. Evening and weekend appointments are available, and she is currently accepting new clients.

Message to clients

You’ve been putting on a brave face—juggling endless responsibilities, caring for everyone else, and pushing forward so no one sees how much you’re struggling. On the outside, it looks like you’re managing. On the inside, you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and not quite yourself.

Your body is telling you it needs attention. Maybe your sleep is off, your blood pressure or blood sugar is creeping up, or you’ve noticed changes in your energy and mood. You want to feel more in control, to find a better balance between caring for others and caring for yourself. But with work, family, health concerns, and everyday stressors, it all feels like too much.

Therapy can give you space to breathe—a place where you don’t have to pretend you’re fine or worry about burdening others. As a health psychologist, I help people break the cycle between stress and physical health by using treatments that work. Together, we’ll create a plan that fits your real life, helping you shift unhelpful patterns, manage difficult emotions, and build habits that support both physical and emotional well-being.

Over time, you’ll feel more grounded, more in control, and more able to focus on what matters most. My goal is to help you move from just getting by to truly thriving. If this resonates, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
