Professional statement

Chad Gillette works with high-functioning, thoughtful people who sense that something underneath their success hasn't been reached. They've often tried other approaches — and found them useful, but not quite sufficient. What they're looking for is something more substantial: work that goes to the root.

Chad's practice is psychoanalytic and depth-oriented. Rather than symptom management, Chad is interested in the underlying structures that keep producing the same patterns — in relationships, in work, in a person's sense of themselves. This is serious, long-term work, and he finds it genuinely interesting.

Chad trained at Columbia, Harvard Divinity School, Boston College, and the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, where he completed full psychoanalytic training. He has been practicing as a psychotherapist since 2006, with two decades of experience working with adults — professionals, meaning-seekers, and people who are ready to go deeper than they have before.

Alongside his clinical training, Chad has spent 30 years in Buddhist study and practice, including five 100-day silent, cloistered meditation retreats. This isn't a modality he applies to clients; it's a fundamental part of how he understands mind, suffering, attention, and transformation, and it shapes the work at every level.

Chad is a father of three and a lifelong athlete — warmer and more grounded than people expect from an analyst.

He sees clients in person in Northampton, MA, and via telehealth throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Message to clients

If you're reading this, you probably already know that something isn't quite working — not on the surface, but underneath. You may be functioning well by most measures, and still feel like you're missing something you can't quite name. That gap is exactly where this work begins.

What I do isn't short-term or solution-focused. It's an exploration of the patterns and structures that keep shaping your life — in your relationships, your sense of yourself, your experience of meaning and satisfaction. People often describe this kind of work as the first time they've felt genuinely understood, and the first time they've been able to understand themselves. It takes time, and it asks something real of you. In my experience, that's precisely what makes it worthwhile.

I work with adults who are ready to go deeper than they have before. I'm not a blank screen — I'm engaged, direct, and genuinely curious about what makes each person tick. People tend to find me warmer than they expected. I take the work seriously; I don't take myself too seriously. If you're considering reaching out, I'd encourage you to trust that instinct.
