McPhail, PhD, LCSW, LMSW, is a licensed clinical psychologist and clinical social worker with more than 40 years of experience providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and children. His approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and practical, and is centered on helping people feel deeply understood while developing real tools for meaningful and lasting change.

Throughout his career, Dr. McPhail has worked extensively with depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship concerns, and long-standing emotional wounds. He works with adults across the lifespan and creates a safe, thoughtful, and collaborative space where clients can explore both immediate concerns and the deeper life experiences that shape their current challenges.

Dr. McPhail is especially committed to making high-quality mental health care accessible to individuals who might otherwise face barriers to treatment. He currently provides telehealth services in Michigan and California.

Message to clients

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to handling things on your own. My goal is to create a space where you feel respected, understood, and able to talk openly at your own pace.

In our work together, we will focus on both the concerns that bring you in now and the patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck. I offer a combination of practical strategies and deeper reflective work so that the changes you make are meaningful and lasting.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable individuals who find themselves overwhelmed, at a turning point, or wanting to respond differently in their relationships and daily lives. Therapy gives us the opportunity to slow things down, gain clarity, and move forward in a more grounded and intentional way.

If you’re looking for a collaborative and experienced therapist who will meet you with warmth and respect, I would be honored to work with you.
