Professional statement

Chris Jinks is a therapist based in San Francisco serving young men, adults, and couples. He is experienced in helping those struggling with occupational stress, burnout, the effects of trauma, and relationship difficulties. He also specializes in supporting first responders, including those living with post-traumatic stress. Before becoming a therapist, Chris worked in the technology industry in London, New York, and Silicon Valley.

Chris uses a combination of powerful approaches to help you heal: talk therapy (such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to help change how you relate to the world around you, and somatic therapies (like Brainspotting) to enable your nervous system to heal from trauma. By combining these methods, Chris helps clients make amazing progress toward the life they want to live.

Now in his second career, Chris brings decades of experience working in high-pressure situations to his clinical work. If you are struggling at work, looking for meaning and purpose, or feeling chronically stressed and burned out, Chris has walked in your shoes.

Chris sees clients in person in both San Francisco and San Mateo. He also provides online sessions to anyone in California.

Chris is supervised by Hannah Stutz, LCSW #99116.

Message to clients

It’s hard being human. We all struggle—it’s part of life—but you don’t have to do it on your own. I believe everyone is doing their best, often in incredibly difficult circumstances and having lived through a patchwork of distressing experiences (often dating back to childhood). A little bit of help can go a long way.

I believe everyone is totally unique—luckily for me, this is empirically true—and I will never try to fit you into a mold or a box. Therapy should move at your pace, and I am very interested in helping people become "therapy-independent." We all need a hand up, and I believe you should walk on your own only when you feel you are ready.

I am a practical person (my previous career has a lot to do with that), and I will always try to keep us focused on pragmatic ways forward. That doesn’t mean just skipping along the surface; if we decide to dive deep (using tools like Brainspotting), you will know exactly why we're doing it and what we hope the outcome will be.

Big changes happen in small steps. I hope I can help you start walking toward the life you want to live.
