Professional statement

Courtenay Baber is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in equine-assisted therapy for individuals healing from the lasting effects of trauma. She brings a warm, grounded presence to every session — creating a space where clients feel genuinely seen, supported, and safe.

Many of Courtenay's clients carry wounds that began in childhood, including the complex aftermath of sexual abuse. For those who have found traditional talk therapy difficult to navigate, Courtenay offers a meaningful alternative — weaving together the healing power of animals with evidence-based clinical approaches tailored to each person's unique needs.

Courtenay integrates equine-assisted therapy with Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her trauma-informed lens ensures clients feel respected and in control as they move through even the most tender memories. The animals in her sessions become trusted companions in the process — opening new pathways to trust, regulation, and connection.

Courtenay works with adults who have experienced trauma, particularly those who haven't found progress in traditional therapy settings. She meets each client where they are, offering compassionate partnership grounded in clinical expertise and genuine care. She brings humor and lightness to the work when the moment calls for it — knowing that healing can hold both depth and joy.

Her goal is simple: to help clients move beyond their trauma and toward lives that feel meaningful, connected, and free.

Message to clients

I believe every person holds within them the capacity for change and healing. I don't come into this work with all the answers — what I offer is a committed partnership where we explore your questions together, at your pace, with honesty and genuine care.

I will ask thoughtful, sometimes challenging questions to gently open doors that may have long been closed. Healing asks us to engage with both what we think and what we feel. I'll create space for both.

I am committed to meeting you exactly where you are. I won't push you beyond what you're ready for — but I will walk beside you with enough encouragement to keep you moving toward the life you want.

On the days you struggle to believe change is possible, I will hold that belief for you.

Change is possible. It would be my honor to help you find your way there.
