Professional statement

Courtney Krok is a psychodynamic and relational therapist who helps individuals and couples make sense of the patterns that shape their lives and relationships. Her work is grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens through understanding of one’s emotions, history, and ways of relating.

She works with adults navigating transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem concerns, and has a particular interest in adult children of alcoholics and those affected by addiction. Courtney’s approach is collaborative and reflective, helping clients make sense of their experiences and feel more grounded and connected in their lives.

Before training as a therapist, Courtney worked with homeless youth in London and later in the tech industry. She holds a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University and offers both in-person sessions in Union Square and virtual sessions across New York State.

Courtney practices in-person and also online. Individual sessions are 45-minutes and Couple sessions are 1-hour. Courtney offers free 15-minute consultations.

Message to clients

Hi, I’m Courtney. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’re used to holding everything together on your own. Many people come to me feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected, unsure why certain patterns keep repeating or why life feels harder than it looks from the outside. I often work with thoughtful people who grew up having to be strong, responsible, or emotionally self-sufficient, and now feel exhausted by perfectionism, self-criticism, or always being “the capable one”.

Many people I work with, both individuals and couples, grew up in families shaped by addiction, emotional unpredictability, or high expectations. This often shows up as perfectionism, disordered eating, anxiety, people-pleasing, emotional distance, or feeling “too much” or never enough. Together, we explore how past experiences shape present patterns.

My approach is relational and psychodynamic, meaning we focus on understanding patterns, emotions, and relationships. Having lived in four countries, I understand what it’s like to adapt and start over, and I see therapy as a place to feel understood, and gradually more at home in yourself.
