Dr. Collins has treated patients across a wide variety of settings including psychiatric inpatient units and college counseling centers. He has considerable expertise treating young adults, including college students and recent graduates, and has a deep understanding of the uncertainties and anxieties that can arise at this phase of life. Dr. Collins also excels with clients who have experienced difficult or abusive family relationships, patients who identify as LGBTQ+, and people who have survived various forms of trauma. His style is warm, curious and open, and many patients comment on Dr. Collins’ ability to help them feel safe and accepted.
Dr. Collins’ therapeutic approach draws primarily from psychodynamic theory but incorporates other modalities depending on your individual needs, particularly dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based techniques, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Patients appreciate his compassion and ability to provide a safe therapeutic environment where they are invited to attune to their authentic selves. Dr. Collins excels at helping patients explore the complexities of their identities in ways that facilitate greater self-understanding and authenticity.
Dr. Collins completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University and currently works at the Flatiron Center for Psychotherapy located in New York City, where he tailors his person-centered, humanistic, trauma-informed approach to discover the most effective treatment for each client.
