Dr David Helfand is a licensed psychologist who works with couples on the edge of divorce during a 3 or 4 day intensive marriage retreat. He has helped hundreds of a couples work on their relationship, and his success rate of reconciliation is about 88%.

He originally trained in neuroscience, and started his career treating anxiety, panic disorder, and insomnia. He uses his knowledge of the brain and nervous system regulation to inform his work with couples and make sure their interactions create intimacy rather than stress.

Most couples choose to travel to his office in Vermont for in-person therapy, however virtual retreats are available on a case-by-case basis and according to state licensing laws.

Message to clients

No one is ever taught how to be married, so it's not a surprise that so many marriages fail. Most couples that come to see me are on the edge of divorce, they've failed at multiple therapy attempts in the past, or they are just generally feeling hopeless.

Even couples considering divorce generally tell me they don't want to get divorced. They just don't know what else to do.

My job is to teach people the skills of a successful marriage so you have a chance at happiness. Once you learn the right skills, then you can make an informed and honest decision about your relationship.
