Professional statement

Dr. Debbie Marton is a licensed clinical psychologist committed to helping people build confidence and trust in themselves. Many of her clients experience academic and professional successes but still feel riddled with self-doubt and self-criticism, making decisions and life transitions especially challenging. Debbie invites individuals and couples to develop curiosity, compassion and grace in understanding themselves and their loved ones. She helps them challenge unhelpful and unwarranted personal beliefs, and she encourages them to find kindness and flexibility in creating their own stories.

Debbie’s therapeutic approach combines insight-oriented and skills-based therapeutic methods to help people achieve their goals. She works with clients to understand how past experiences have shaped current thoughts, beliefs and behaviors, and she helps them gain new perspectives and more effective problem solving. In session, Debbie focuses on questioning negative core beliefs and developing more positive self-talk. In this way, she supports clients to feel more self-compassion and more confidence.

Debbie’s therapeutic style is thoughtful, engaging and insightful. Many clients appreciate her astute observations and perceptive questions, as she gently pushes them to challenge old ways of viewing themselves. She strives to fully understand her clients and to make their goals the focus of the therapy.

Debbie currently offers remote therapy to clients in Massachusetts and New York. She believes in making therapy financially accessible to students, early career professionals and people experiencing financial hardship. She welcomes inquiries and questions about her practice.
