Doug is a mental health therapist and is licensed as a licensed clinical social worker, (LCSW), licensed independent social worker, (LISW) and certified alcohol and drug counselor, (CADC), who works with people using compassion based, as well as evidence-based processes to help clients achieve their treatment goals. Doug works with adults and adolescents, though telehealth. His treatment approach is guided by helping people move towards their valued direction(s). Together he and his clients evaluate emotional, social and spiritual needs. His goal is to help patients get better by understanding their unique needs and give them tools to be the best version of themselves they can be.
Doug graduated from the University of Iowa with a master’s in social work. He has over 13 years of extensive experience helping people with anxiety disorders including trauma, generalized anxiety, phobias, ADHD and OCD. He also works with people who have stress, depression, anger, grief, avoidance and pain/somatic issues. He uses mindfulness-based therapy which includes extensive training in third wave behavioral therapy including acceptance and commitment therapy, (ACT), focused acceptance and commit therapy, (FAT), dialectical behavior therapy, (DBT), and cognitive behavioral therapy, (CBT), all of which are based on how people learn from a behavioral perspective. He has also studied structural family therapy, psychoanalytic therapy and spiritual counseling.
He is a great listener. He has 2 children, and 3 fury children. He enjoys being outdoors, hiking, biking and gardening. He also enjoys reading and listening to many types of music. He was formerly on the board of the Heartland Regional Health Equity Council for five years advocating health equity and the Affordable Care ACT. He has also volunteered for the Statewide Independent Living Council, Ronald McDonald House, and American Lung Association.
