Investing in one's mental health makes sense to most of us. Yet we often struggle with the thought that maybe our "issues" don't merit therapy. Our culture often tells us that there is weakness in seeking support or admitting that we are struggling. Yet we all yearn for connection and want to be known. Therapy can help us reconnect with ourselves and others, and help us move towards a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. It can offer a safe space to build insight, increase clarity and challenge thought and behavior patterns that aren't working. Sometimes people come to therapy for more targeted, solution-focused concerns and sometimes people are interested in more in-depth work, as they wonder "Is there more to life?".
Therapy is a collaborative process rooted in trust. My goal is to foster a sense of empowerment where the skills you learn can have lasting positive impacts. I like to balance insight-oriented therapy with building practical skills to manage, not avoid, the difficult emotions that we all encounter at times in our life.
Background & training
I have a B.S. in Economics and B.A. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters of Clinical Social Work from Boston College. I completed a 2-year postgraduate behavioral health fellowship at Atrius Health, where I worked with a diverse patient population. I have worked in schools, hospitals, partial hospitals, community mental health and home-based settings. As a bilingual, bicultural therapist, I offer therapy in English or Spanish. I am trained in using CBT and DBT techniques to build coping skills and increase self-efficacy. I also use a Psychodynamic lens in my work in order to help clients attain greater self-awareness and achieve personal growth.
