Professional statement

Elizabeth Chattillion, Ph.D. is a licensed Clinical Psychologist offering online therapy throughout Virginia. She specializes in working with adults with anxiety, including health anxiety, panic attacks, perfectionism, and burnout. Many of her clients come to therapy feeling exhausted by constant worry or physical symptoms such as chest tightness, nausea, or trouble sleeping. As a trained Health Psychologist, she understands the connection between mind and body and has experience working with adults coping with chronic medical conditions.

Dr. Chattillion specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), both of which are research-backed treatments for anxiety, as well as many other mental health concerns. Both approaches focus on learning skills for responding to painful or unwanted thoughts and feelings in a more helpful way. Both treatments also help clients make behavior change focused on building a more fulfilling life.

She completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2014 through the University of California San Diego / San Diego State University Joint Doctoral Program. She then completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University, and later joined the School of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor. She was a Psychologist at the Providence VA Healthcare System from 2015-2023, helping Veterans manage both mental health (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD) and medical conditions (e.g., chronic pain, diabetes, insomnia).

Message to clients

Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and stress? Do you experience constant worry, muscle tension, trouble sleeping, or even panic attacks? Perhaps you’ve noticed that self-criticism or fear of failure is holding you back. You may be struggling to manage stress from a high-pressure job or trying to balance caring for others (kids, aging parents) and yourself. If you’re feeling stuck in any of these ways, I am here to help.

My goal is to help you take charge of your life, rather than allowing worry, fear, and self-doubt to call the shots. I use research-backed therapies to teach you skills so that you can more effectively manage anxiety, stress, and burnout. Although I use therapy techniques that are evidence-based, therapy with me is not just reading from a book. I value compassion, warmth, humor, and authenticity. Therapy with me is collaborative; it is not me telling you what to do, but us working together to understand the challenges you face and make real changes. My approach is centered on helping you get “unstuck,” do more of what’s important to you, and build a more meaningful life.
