Professional statement

Emma Horvath, LCSW, works with adolescents, young adults and adults who are navigating anxiety, stress, lack of motivation, and life transitions. She is passionate about helping clients make sense of their experiences and build a life of meaning, joy, and purpose. Emma understands how overwhelming it can feel to begin therapy, creating a safe and supportive space where clients can share openly without fear of judgment.

Emma's approach is grounded in unconditional positive regard, perspective-shifting and meaning-making. She takes a humanistic stance, focusing on each client as a whole person rather than just a diagnosis or set of symptoms. She also integrates techniques that encourage reflection, self-awareness, and new ways of thinking, while always moving at the client’s pace. Sessions often begin by addressing day-to-day concerns, then gradually exploring deeper patterns when clients feel ready.

She considers therapy a collaborative journey- one where the therapeutic connection itself is a powerful tool for growth. By fostering trust and openness, she helps clients gain clarity, develop healthier thought patterns, and cultivate self-compassion. Emma believes that sitting down with someone who truly “gets” you can be transformative and she is committed to walking alongside her clients as they move toward greater understanding and fulfillment.

Message to clients

I begin from a place of unconditional positive regard and I want my office to be a place where you can share anything without judgment. This goes for any topic whether it be taboo, dark, or otherwise unmentionable in so-called ‘pleasant company.’ Mr. Rogers was wise as ever when he said, “Anything that's human is mentionable and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable.” It is my job to make anything feel ‘mentionable’ in my office.

One of the most powerful parts of therapy is perspective shifting and meaning making, my goal is to help you change the way you think. We begin by talking about what is going on in your day-to-day, then dive deeper into themes and patterns in your life. I focus on you as a person, not a "diagnosis", you will be actively engaged while I guide and prompt you with the right questions at the right time.

We will make sense of the world together, so that you can achieve your highest potential and true contentment. I'll use metaphors and maybe a couple of silly yet sincere jokes that stick with you and make you think between our sessions. I will not often give you worksheets, but I may pose a thought experiment.
