Professional statement

Dr. Rothman received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University and completed her predoctoral and postdoctoral training in Behavioral Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is licensed in Rhode Island and offers therapy online to individuals ranging from young adulthood (college) to the elderly. Her areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, dating and relationship issues, and adjustments to major life events and transitions (such as beginning or ending college/graduate school/medical school, starting a family, getting married, retiring, or making a significant career transition.) She also has a special interest in treating individuals struggling to manage their ADHD, and parents of young children. Additionally, a large portion of her practice has focused on supporting graduate students through their training.

Using warmth and often humor, Dr. Rothman practices evidenced based therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-based practices to help her clients develop the skills and tools they need to navigate their current struggles, while building purposeful goals and resilience for their future.

Message to clients

Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time, or have had a great experience with another therapist and can't imagine starting over, or have had an unsatisfying experience before: coming here is the bravest thing you can do, and I so deeply commend you for that. My goal as a therapist is through a warm and trusting relationship help you articulate your struggles and your goals, and then, most importantly, help you develop a toolkit of coping skills to take with you through life.

While your history is crucial in understanding how you got here, the focus of our therapy will be on learning to cope with your pain as it shows up now so that you can be freed to live more fully in the present moment. Through values clarification exercises I will help you define who you want to be in your life, how you want to live, and where you find your purpose and meaning, and then together, through evidence-based techniques, work towards building space in your life to realize these goals and values.

Client testimonials

"Reaching out to Gaby was the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. She gave me what past experiences in therapy had not - concrete, manageable ways to make actual change. She made me feel seen and helped me to build a plan for myself, to establish a routine in order to lift myself out of the place I had fallen into. She is warm, kind, and has been such an impactful ally in my journey with mental health. I am better for having met her, and I will take these lessons with me in each new iteration of myself."
- Brown University alum December 2019
"Gaby really just got me and understood what I was talking about. I could tell she genuinely cared and at our last session today she gave me a hug and told me to stay in touch after graduation. I honestly looked forward to therapy every week because of her."
- Brown University student June 2015
"I had a serious mental breakdown when a number of tragic incidents happened in both work and relationships, and Gaby was a lifesaver. She did a great job of letting me talk during the first session, deal with the frustration and confusion, and gave me many tips for identifying the main causes. She had a useful process that allowed me to self-diagnose: figuring out where I feel most sources of pain and sorting a list of values into magnitudes of importance. She took very good notes and helped me realize which factors were really hurting me. When I graduated and left campus, we continued via phone on a weekly basis until I had really transitioned from college to real life. Gaby has a good pulse on college students; I highly recommend her."
