Professional statement

Jane Markowitz is a LCSW working in Old City, Philadelphia. They work with couples and individuals on deepening their relationships and connections. Many of Jane's clients are adults navigating LGBTQIA+ identity development, sexual identity exploration, life transitions, relationship issues, and sexual health issues. Jane is particularly passionate about serving LGBTQIA+ community, new parents, women, and nonbinary folks.

Jane is a relationally focused therapist who works with queer and trans individuals and couples navigating relationship challenges, identity exploration, and emotional growth. She offers an affirming, collaborative space where clients can show up as their full selves and feel supported in deepening both self-understanding and connection with others.

Jane works with individuals and couples around issues such as communication breakdowns, intimacy concerns, conflict patterns, life transitions, and the impact of past experiences on present relationships. Her approach is integrative and tailored, drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic, Adlerian, and Gottman-informed frameworks. They are attentive to how early relational patterns, internal parts, and social contexts shape current dynamics, while also offering practical tools to strengthen connection and repair.

Jane has 7 years of experience working in group practices. They offer in person sessions Tuesday & Wednesday and remote sessions Monday and Thursdays. Jane has evening availability.

Message to clients

I want you to know that therapy with me is a collaborative process, not something I do to you. You are the expert on your life, and my role is to offer curiosity, structure, and support as we explore what’s feeling stuck, painful, or confusing. I work at a pace that honors your nervous system and your lived experience, and I strive to create a space that is affirming, respectful, and grounded in car, especially for queer and trans folks whose identities have too often been misunderstood or marginalized in clinical settings.

Before we begin, it can be helpful to know that my approach blends insight with practical tools. We may spend time understanding how past relationships, internal parts, and long-standing patterns show up in the present, while also learning skills to support communication, emotional regulation, and connection. I sometimes invite creative or experiential work, like sandtray, when it feels useful, but we’ll always talk together about what feels supportive and aligned for you.

My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you can feel more at home in yourself and more connected in your relationships. Whether you’re coming in with a clear goal or just a sense that something isn’t quite right, you don’t have to have it all figured out. We’ll take it one step at a time, with honesty, compassion, and room for growth.
