Professional statement

Jaq Sarah French works with adults navigating addiction and the many challenges that often accompany it, including anxiety, shame, people-pleasing, relationship strain, unclear boundaries, and the impact of trauma. Jaq’s clients are often the dependable ones in their families or communities—those who keep the peace, hold everything together, and appear steady while privately feeling overwhelmed or disconnected. Many arrive feeling exhausted from carrying so much alone and ready for a space where they can finally be honest.

Jaq’s therapeutic approach centers on creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients can exhale, explore what hurts, and consider what needs to change. Jaq supports both harm-reduction and abstinence-based goals, helping clients clarify what they want for themselves and build a path that aligns with their values. Whether someone is cutting back, getting sober, or simply questioning their relationship with substances, Jaq helps clients untangle emotional patterns, reconnect with themselves, and develop clearer, healthier boundaries. Rather than positioning therapy as “fixing,” Jaq walks alongside clients as they move toward what feels more genuine and sustainable.

Jaq brings experience supporting adults through addiction recovery, trauma-related concerns, emotional intensity, and experiences of emotional numbness or disconnection. Their work draws from evidence-based practices and is tailored to each client’s needs, with an emphasis on safety, self-understanding, and practical growth.

Jaq offers remote therapy for clients located in Texas and California, as well as in-person sessions in Menlo Park, California. Scheduling options are flexible to accommodate varied personal and professional demands.

Message to clients

Before we begin working together, I want you to know that you do not need to show up with perfect words, clear goals, or a polished version of yourself. My role is to offer a space where you can be honest, uncertain, overwhelmed, or curious without having to manage anyone else’s reactions. I work from both harm-reduction and abstinence models, and we will clarify together what approach best aligns with your needs, values, and circumstances.

My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you can slow down, understand what has been driving your patterns, and experiment with new ways of relating to yourself and the world. You set the pace. I am here to help you make sense of what feels tangled, challenge what no longer serves you, and support you as you move toward a version of your life that feels steadier and more authentic.

If you choose to work with me, we will build a collaborative relationship grounded in honesty, respect, and your own definition of change.
