Professional statement

When high-achieving professionals feel stuck — burned out, quietly doubting themselves, or struggling in ways they can't explain or overcome— they want Jason Sackett, the therapist who's spent over three decades embedded in the world of work: universities, corporations, healthcare systems. He knows that world and has seen how the sausage is made.

Jason's clients— physicians, software engineers, HR and business executives, academics — are talented, well-educated, and very good at solving problems, until suddenly they're not. They come to him for help with work stress, conflict, sudden loss of confidence, imposter syndrome, career burnout, relationship challenges, performance issues, trauma, and habits that have quietly started making life unmanageable.

Jason is built differently than most people. Incapable of being judgmental, he absorbs and remembers every detail, including how it feels to be you. Clients consistently describe feeling genuinely known, often within the first session. He's also fun. Jason has a self-deprecating, energizing sense of humor that makes sessions feel less like therapy and more like a conversation with a thought partner invested in your self-improvement.

To maximize outcomes, Jason has developed specialized expertise in EMDR, ACT, CBT, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction including biofeedback. In less technical terms: he has a deep toolbox and the experience to know which tool to offer. He also integrates 12-step principles seamlessly, when applicable.

Jason's practice is 99.9% virtual, enhanced by high-tech lighting, sound, and a 4K "Eye Contact" webcam that makes the video experience feel genuinely present. He provides clinical services to anyone physically residing in California, and coaching services worldwide. For L.A. residents, in-person consultations, including “walk and talk” sessions through a neutral neighborhood, are available by special arrangement.

If you work for a Lyra-affiliated company in California, feel free to inquire about eligibility for this program.

Message to clients

If you're a high-achiever who's quietly struggling — with stress, self-doubt, conflict, burnout, or something you haven't named yet — you're in the right place. I work with accomplished people who are used to having it together, and feel dismayed when they don't. I get it. And I can help.

A few things you should know about me:

• I’m a big teddy bear that’s also smart. People feel safe and comfortable with me, sometimes surprisingly quickly, and appreciate my insights.

• I have a near-eidetic memory for people's stories. My clients feel seen, understood, and accepted, because I capture what they've told me and track their progress in real time.

• Clients often describe leaving sessions feeling more capable and energized than when they arrived. It could be contagious optimism, or possibly magic, but it’s real.

• I’m a fierce advocate for people who've been dismissed, overlooked, or mistreated at work. I've helped countless clients reclaim their confidence and find a path forward, and I take that role seriously.

• I’m a dragon-slayer of imposter syndrome, self-criticism, and conflict avoidance.

• I’m well-versed in 12-step recovery principles, and my clinical approaches complement these (and don't conflict).

• I take the work seriously, but not myself. Clients have an open invitation to tease me.

• I absolutely love what I do and continue to get stronger at it.

• I'm a dog person, but a cat magnet.

My therapeutic approach draws from ACT, EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness practices. I also use EMDR and bilateral stimulation to help supercharge existing strengths and positive thinking, and to reprocess negative past experiences.
