Professional statement

Dr. Jeff Selman is a licensed psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D) who works with individuals functioning at a high level in demanding, performance-driven environments. Many of the people he works with are meeting expectations and maintaining strong performance, but find that doing so has become increasingly effortful. The pressure can be constant, thinking difficult to step away from, and there is often a growing gap between external success and internal experience.

He works with high-performing professionals in leadership and high-responsibility roles, as well as individuals navigating demanding academic and early-career paths. Across these contexts, clients are often managing sustained pressure, overthinking, and a persistent sense that they should be operating at a higher level—despite clear evidence of strong performance.

Dr. Selman’s approach is grounded in cognitive-behavioral and acceptance-based therapies, with a focus on improving clarity, reducing unnecessary mental strain, and supporting more effective responses under pressure. His work often begins with developing a clear understanding of patterns in thinking and behavior, sometimes incorporating targeted assessment and data-informed strategies to guide the direction of treatment.

He also has experience working with individuals who are intellectually gifted or neurodivergent, where internal demands can be as complex as external expectations. In these cases, treatment is tailored to align with each individual’s cognitive style and the specific challenges they face.

Dr. Selman’s style is direct, collaborative, and thoughtful. The work is focused on creating meaningful and sustainable change, while supporting clients in continuing to perform effectively in the areas of their lives that matter most.

Message to clients

If you’re considering reaching out, you may already be functioning at a high level in your work or studies, but finding that sustaining that level has become increasingly demanding. The pressure may be constant, thinking difficult to step away from, and maintaining performance requires more effort than it used to.

I work with high-performing professionals and individuals in demanding academic or early-career paths who are looking for a focused, practical approach to managing stress, anxiety, and the ongoing mental demands they face. My goal is to help you think more clearly, reduce unnecessary mental strain, and respond more effectively to the pressures in your life.

Our work will be collaborative and straightforward, with an emphasis on understanding patterns, clarifying priorities, and applying changes in a way that is both practical and sustainable over time.
