Professional statement

Dr. Jordan Thayer is a licensed psychologist in Washington who works with teens, young adults, and high-pressure professionals navigating trauma, suicidality, ADHD, identity questions, and difficult life transitions. He often works with young men in tech or leadership roles, queer and gender-diverse young adults, and parents seeking thoughtful support for children or teens struggling at home, in relationships, or at school.

Jordan’s approach starts from the belief that people’s patterns make sense in context. Rather than viewing symptoms in isolation, he helps clients understand how their history, nervous system, environment, and internal coping strategies are interacting in the present. His work integrates trauma-focused treatment, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), parts work, and parent coaching to help clients build insight, flexibility, and a stronger sense of agency.

He has particular experience supporting clients living with chronic suicidal thoughts, self-harm, and complex trauma, and aims to offer a space where these experiences can be talked about directly, without panic, shame, or overreaction. Clients often seek him out when they want a therapist who can handle intensity, think deeply, and stay grounded while helping them make meaningful change.

In addition to therapy, Jordan provides ADHD and learning evaluations that look beyond checklists to understand executive functioning, emotional health, trauma, and the real-life demands of school, work, and relationships. His background includes years of work in schools, hospitals, and community settings, and he continues to train other professionals in trauma-informed, school-based, and suicide-specific care.

Dr. Thayer offers in-person and virtual therapy for clients across Washington.

Message to clients

We all carry stories—about who we’re supposed to be, what we’ve been through, and what’s “allowed” to hurt. Sometimes those stories help us move forward. Other times, they leave us stuck, numb, angry, or exhausted.

If you’re a teen or young adult, that might look like panic about school, not wanting to be here anymore, or feeling like no one really gets the intensity of what you’re going through.

If you’re a man in a high-pressure job, it might look like snapping at people you care about, not sleeping before big days, or wondering why everything feels pointless when your life “looks fine” on paper.

If you’re queer or gender-diverse, it might look like carrying identity, family, and safety questions mostly on your own and being tired of having to educate the people who are supposed to help.

My job is to make room for all of that. I aim to offer a space where we can talk honestly about suicidality, trauma, ADHD, burnout, and relationship patterns without you being judged, rushed, or treated like a problem to fix. We’ll look at how your mind and body are reacting to what you’ve lived through, and we’ll work together to build something more sustainable—whether that’s steadier mood, clearer boundaries, fewer crises, or a different relationship with your thoughts.

I don’t expect you to show up with perfect insight or the right words. If all you know is “I can’t keep doing it like this,” that’s enough to start.
