Dr. Karen Weiser is a Licensed Psychoanalyst in private practice in Tribeca who works with adults (18+) and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationship patterns, sexuality and gender, and self-esteem. Whether you've been in therapy before or this is your first time reaching out, Karen creates a warm, LGBTQIA+ affirming space where you can work together to understand what's keeping you stuck.
Karen often works with people who have been struggling with depression and anxiety for a long time—sometimes feeling like nothing will change. She focuses on helping her patients learn to better regulate their emotions so they can feel less overwhelmed and find more self-acceptance. Her goal is to help you make real progress: fewer panic attacks, less isolation, stronger relationships, and especially the ability to articulate and work through feelings so they don't feel as painful or all-consuming.
When working with couples, Karen helps both partners listen for and hear what might be underneath stuck dynamics—the patterns that keep them from truly connecting.
Karen's training is in relational psychoanalysis, which focuses on recognizing and shifting the unconscious and attachment dynamics that underlie all relationships, including the ones we have with ourselves. She takes a collaborative approach and often incorporates mindfulness, attention to the body, and other therapeutic modes that fit each patient's unique needs and goals.
After earning a PhD in English and an MFA in poetry, Karen left academia and completed advanced training in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City. As a writer trained in literary analysis, she listens especially closely to the language her patients use and the stories they tell themselves—because how we narrate our lives shapes how we experience them.
