Professional statement

Karla Ford, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing telehealth therapy in Illinois. She works primarily with college and emerging adults as well as adults who are navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship struggles, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, stress, depression, and PTSD. Her clinical style is centered on helping clients heal their relationship with themselves so they can move toward greater authenticity, confidence, clarity, and connection.

Her therapy approach is safe, collaborative, and supportive, with an emphasis on helping clients feel seen while exploring meaningful change. She draws from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Relational Therapy. Through these modalities, she helps clients build practical skills for managing emotions, shifting unhelpful patterns, deepening self-understanding, and developing healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

Karla brings experience providing trauma-informed care to children, adolescents, and adults, along with conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based psychotherapy. She collaborates with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to support emotional growth, resilience, and overall well-being. Her educational background includes a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology: Counseling Practice from Roosevelt University, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Northeastern University, and an Associate of Arts in Psychology from Wilbur Wright College.

Message to clients

I understand how overwhelming it can be to find a therapist, so if you see this, I want to say how courageous you are! In this therapeutic space, I intend to offer a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported — grounded in compassion, collaboration, and trust. I have a relational approach, meaning the therapeutic relationship is also used as a tool to help heal. If you are looking for a therapist to give many worksheets and very structured sessions, I probably will not be the therapist for you. A therapy session with me will look like aiming for our established goals while also having flexibility and flow to our sessions. You don't need to have everything figured out before we begin. I will meet you where you are and work alongside you without judgment.
