Professional statement

Kate Guzman, LCSW, is a warm, compassionate therapist who specializes in helping individuals navigate anxiety, stress, self-esteem struggles, chronic illness, and major life transitions. She works with clients who feel overwhelmed by excessive worry, overthinking, panic, relationship stress, burnout, or the pressure of trying to keep everything together while silently struggling underneath. Many of her clients are highly self-aware and capable, yet find themselves stuck in cycles of self-doubt, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or emotional exhaustion.

Kate creates a supportive, down-to-earth, and nonjudgmental space where clients can feel understood while developing practical tools for lasting change. She frequently works with young adults, college and graduate students, professionals, parents, and individuals coping with chronic pain or medical conditions that affect emotional well-being, identity, relationships, and everyday functioning. She understands how emotionally draining it can feel to manage both the visible and invisible burdens people carry.

In addition to her work with anxiety and self-worth, Kate also supports women during pregnancy and postpartum, including those experiencing postpartum anxiety, depression, identity shifts, and the emotional demands that often come with parenting and caregiving.

Her therapeutic style is collaborative, relational, and grounded in evidence-based practices. Kate integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based strategies, trauma-informed care, and self-compassion-focused approaches to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She believes therapy should feel both emotionally supportive and practical, giving clients tools they can apply in their everyday lives.

Kate graduated from Columbia University in 2013 and completed advanced psychotherapy training through the Metropolitan Center for Mental Health. She also received advanced training in CBT through the Beck Institute.

Kate provides Telehealth services throughout New York and is passionate about helping clients feel more grounded, confident, balanced, and connected to themselves.

Message to clients

Before starting therapy with me, I want you to know that you’re stepping into a space where you can exhale. You don’t need to come with answers, a clear narrative, or a plan for what to focus on. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, parenting overwhelm, work stress, or relationship difficulties, I’ll meet you exactly where you are and help you make sense of what feels heavy.

My hope is that our work together becomes a place where you feel seen, supported, and understood. I believe deeply in the importance of emotional intelligence—not just as a tool for parenting, but as a way to move through life with more clarity, self-awareness, and compassion. In our sessions, we’ll explore your emotions, patterns, and needs in a way that feels grounding and empowering.

Most of all, I want therapy to feel like a collaborative process. You don’t have to prepare or show up in any specific way—just as yourself, in whatever state you’re in. Together, we’ll work toward finding stability, connection, and a greater sense of balance in your daily life.
