Professional statement

Kathleen Silver is a psychotherapist in Summit, NJ, working with people of all ages and stages, as well as couples.

She specializes in relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and parenting challenges.

Her warm and compassionate style supports clients in better understanding themselves and aspects of their lives they wish to change. Her ability to customize therapy to her clients’ needs enables them to reduce anxiety and/or depression, increase their sense of productivity, and create healthier connections with people in their lives.

In her work with couples, Kathleen uses the Gottman Method to help couples clarify unhealthy relationship habits and develop new ways to communicate and reconnect. Trust, commitment and friendship are central to any healthy partnership, and through couples work, can be rebuilt and nurtured.

Kathleen has been practicing psychotherapy for thirteen years, and continues to engage in trainings and opportunities to grow her knowledge base and skills.

Message to clients

Life brings us so many changes and transitions! Some of them can leave us feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and uncertain about how to make things better.

I have always been deeply curious about people…their personalities, hopes and struggles. I truly enjoy helping my clients get insight about themselves, and develop new coping skills to help them manage the many challenges life seems to bring!

I offer a safe and comfortable space where you feel heard and understood. My style is warm, compassionate and non-judgmental. I listen attentively and work collaboratively with my clients, seeking to understand their experiences and tailor therapy to their unique needs and goals.

In my work with couples, I help them identify the issues and communication habits leading to feelings of distance and resentment. Many of the couples I work with find their challenges are more easily explored and repaired with an impartial “third party,” who can offer a new perspective. Trust and commitment CAN be rebuilt and nurtured, when two people are open to new ways to connect and move forward.

I welcome the opportunity to meet you and explore this process with you!
