Professional statement

Katrin I. Kutlucinar, MA, LGPC, is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in Maryland and Idaho who is deeply passionate about helping individuals navigate complex mental health challenges with compassion and expertise. She specializes in working with clients living with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, and trauma/PTSD.

Before becoming a licensed therapist, Katrin gained valuable experience as a Residential and Transitional Age Youth Counselor at Sheppard Pratt. She earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Washington Adventist University in 2021. Along with practicing therapy, Katrin also serves as a research associate under the renowned neuropsychopharmacologist Dr. Robert M. Post, MD, where she has authored and published her own peer-reviewed research on topics including bipolar disorder, ADHD, depression, and clinician bias. Katrin tailors her treatment approach to each client’s unique needs. She is one of few clinicians in the U.S. trained in Family-Focused Therapy (FFT) for Bipolar Disorder and also provides treatment using IPSRT, CBT, DBT, EMDR, TF-CBT, ACT, and CBT for Psychosis. She collaborates closely with psychiatrists when appropriate to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care. Dedicated to accessibility, Katrin works with Maryland Medicaid and Medicare and offers sliding scale or pro bono services for those without insurance.

Katrin takes pride in meeting clients where they are, providing a safe and supportive space to explore their stories, build resilience, and rediscover hope. She offers free 15-minute consultations to help new clients find the right therapeutic fit.

Message to clients

You need to talk to someone. You're in a stressful place in your life. Not only is your desire for clarity and comfort at its peak but your need to find the right therapist is a leap of faith. Seeing me, you may find our sessions to be empowering, challenging, yet comfortable, and at times humorous. You can become energized by the unfolding of your story, and gaining new insights into your thoughts and feelings that no longer work for you. Are you having difficulties adjusting to life with a mental health disorder or struggling to make sense of a traumatic experience?

My name is Katrin, and I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor. I specialize in mood disorders, psychosis, trauma/PTSD, and borderline personality disorder. I integrate current research into my work to provide the most informed treatment modalities to my clients.

Even when it feels like you’re alone, you don’t have to face this journey by yourself. As your therapist, I’m here to help you navigate the loneliness and fear that often come with these disorders and traumatic experiences. Together, we will work to build your confidence and resilience so you can regain control of your life.

I look forward to working with you.
