Dr. Kimberly Mathew is a Clinical Forensic Psychologist who opened her own private practice in Woodstock, Illinois to establish a well-balanced life while juggling all the demands of life including family, friends, home, and work. Therapeutically, she works from a Psychodynamic approach with a focus on the therapeutic relationship and establishing a positive and safe therapeutic bond. Dr. Mathew enjoys learning about each client and working with them to enhance their well-being by identifying maladaptive cycles of behavior to take steps towards positive change.
Dr. Mathew also enjoys working with a variety of culturally diverse populations, as well as individuals with varying treatment needs. Indeed, she has experience conducting therapy with survivors of trauma and takes a trauma informed approach to treatment. She also has experience working with individuals with varying mental health disorders and personality disorders.
In addition to therapy, Dr. Mathew also conducts neuropsychological and psychological evaluations to help assess and diagnose mental health disorders and identify treatment needs. She presents with a strong knowledge base and experience completing comprehensive evaluations that aim to direct treatment needs and goals.
Couples counseling - Addressing relationship challenges and life transitions; strengthening communication and feelings of security, desire, connection, and love
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
Neuropsychological testing - Evaluations of general brain functioning, as well as assessment for changes or impairments. Typically involves an interview, as well as series of tests.
Psychological evaluations & testing - A broad range of tests and assessments that may be used to identify present strengths, provide diagnosis clarity, and inform treatment goals
Mood disorders - Clinical depression, persistent depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders that cause disturbances in the client's mood, causing mood swings, restless sleep, and/or elevated mood
Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) - Recovering from the impact of long-term, repeated traumatic events, such as emotional abuse and neglect
