Professional statement

Dr. Kristen Freeman, LMFT, is a relational, collaborative, and culturally responsive therapist who provides an identity-affirming, trauma-informed space where clients feel seen, respected, and supported. She serves all identities and is BIPOC-aligned and an LGBTQIA+ ally, offering care that honors culture, lived experience, and intersectionality. With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Kristen Freeman brings warmth, depth, and clinical wisdom to her work. Her integrative and empowering approach blends psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, EFT, attachment-based work, and insights from consciousness studies, grounded in the belief that healing occurs within safe, attuned relationships.

She specializes in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma, with a strong focus on addressing and healing childhood wounds that continue to shape adult functioning, relationships, and self-worth. Many clients come to therapy feeling unmotivated, burned out, or stuck in familiar emotional or relational patterns. Through collaborative exploration, increased self-awareness, and the development of effective coping strategies, she supports clients in achieving their goals and creating meaningful, lasting change.

Dr. Kristen Freeman has spent more than 15 years working closely with women across every stage of life, including college and early adulthood, career development, relationships, perinatal and parenting transitions, quarter-life uncertainty, midlife challenges, and later-life reflection. She is especially attuned to identity shifts, emotional complexity, and the relational demands that often accompany these transitions. Her work emphasizes emotional safety, insight, and empowerment, helping clients cultivate resilience and a deeper sense of well-being.

In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Kristen Freeman is a certified professional life coach, certified mindfulness instructor, and certified Reiki Master, allowing her to offer a holistic and integrative approach to care. She serves late adolescents through older adults and works with clients in California via telehealth and in person, providing thoughtful, compassionate support through life’s transitions.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel a bit like stepping into a new room and letting your eyes adjust to the light. In our first session, my focus is simply on getting to know you—your story, your experiences, and what brings you here at this point in your life. Beginning with a new therapist is vulnerable, so we take our time. I’ll ask questions to better understand you, and I warmly encourage you to ask questions too, including anything you’d like to know about my training, experience, or how I work. Sessions with me are meant to feel grounded, human, and respectful—less about rushing to “fix” things and more about listening carefully to what’s asking for attention.

Over time, our work becomes a place to gently explore the parts of your experience that feel tender, heavy, or hard to put into words—like slowly untangling a knot rather than pulling on it too fast. I aim to be warm, attuned, and encouraging as we work through what matters most to you, always honoring the therapeutic relationship as something meaningful and built on trust. My hope is that you leave feeling a little more understood, a little less alone, and more connected to yourself. I offer sessions both in person and online via telehealth, and we’ll find a rhythm and pace that feels supportive for you.
