Professional statement

Lauren Blackwood is a licensed psychotherapist in Massachusetts and Washington, DC . She specializes in trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship issues.

Lauren uses a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which means she helps clients identify the connection between unhealthy thought patterns, emotions, physical sensations (such as tightness in chest, or dizziness) and behavior. When thoughts are distorted and accepted as truth, we are often left feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and not good enough. Lauren helps clients to re-frame unhealthy thinking patterns and develop a healthier mindset. Lauren also draws from somatic mind-body interventions to help clients heal from painful past experiences, regulate big emotions, and be more grounded in the present moment.

In sessions you will work to identify stuck points in your life and unpack emotional reactions which may feel overwhelming and out of control. For example, you may be a high performing student or professional, who, from an outsiders perspective, is seemingly able to meet deadlines and achieve goals. From your perspective though, you may have frequent thoughts that you are never good enough. Your work should have been better, your social interactions should have been better, you should be better. These negative thoughts may manifest in excessive worry and physical sensations such as a tight chest and stomach aches. In sessions you will be given a safe space to better understand your thoughts and feelings, and you will be given tools to process challenging emotions so that you can begin to feel more balanced and centered in your life.

You deserve to feel centered and happy. Contact Lauren today! Free consultations available upon request.

Message to clients

Finding the right therapist can feel like a hurdle in itself, so I am really glad you’re here. I believe real growth begins when you feel safe, understood, and supported—and I place great value on creating that kind of space in our work together.

I especially enjoy working with individuals navigating ADHD and anxiety, and I understand how these challenges can impact daily life, relationships, and self-worth. My approach is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented, helping you not just feel heard, but also empowered to make meaningful changes.

Many people I work with begin to notice positive shifts within the first 5–6 sessions—whether that’s greater clarity, emotional relief, or small steps toward larger goals. From there, we continue building on that foundation with steady, ongoing growth tailored to your unique needs and pace.

Clients have shared that therapy with me has helped them gain a stronger sense of self, meet personal goals, and feel more joyful and grounded in their lives. It would be an honor to support you on your therapy journey.
