Professional statement

Lisa M. Hoffman is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who welcomes individuals and couples into her practice. Often, people who contact Lisa are facing a crisis in their lives, whether it be in their relationships, facing a new medical diagnosis, at college or other life hurdles. They arrive at therapy because they want to make significant changes in their lives and/or they are looking for emotional support as they weather the storm of trauma or loss. They are sometimes feeling alone and not connected to others. Lisa works with people who experience anxiety, depression, addiction and other often debilitating challenges.

Lisa's approach to therapy comes from the wisdom of 25 years of clinical experience, drawing from psychodynamic and relational therapies. People derive insight about themselves through guided introspection and reflection using behavioral and holistic approaches that can support their emotional wellbeing and lead to change. Sessions are tailored to meet the individual needs of each person and situation. Her style is warm, empathic, caring and engaged. She often brings humor into sessions to connect with those present.

Lisa's professional background includes experiences working on psychiatric crisis teams in community mental health centers. This has led to a deep understanding of how to work with people in distress. She has also worked in inpatient and outpatient treatment settings, including with college students, healthcare workers, first responders, artists and other diverse people. She creates a comfortable environment in her sessions, which helps people feel the safety needed to talk openly about what is going on in their lives.

Message to clients

Whether you are currently in crisis and/or have been wanting to unravel and alter unhelpful and possibly destructive life patterns, I welcome your contact. I work with individuals and couples and have expertise in a wide-range of areas. These areas include, but are not limited to: relationship conflicts, mood disorders, trauma, chronic or acute medical conditions (including cancer and autoimmune diagnoses), caregiver challenges, LGBTQ+ related struggles, issues related to social justice as well as addiction. When appropriate, I encourage adjuncts to psychotherapy such as movement, arts, pursuit of passion, nutrition and related self-care.

I recognize how courageous it can be to seek mental health treatment. We will go at a pace that is comfortable and appropriately challenging. I strive to offer care that pays close attention to your unique situation and goals and I am dedicated to co-creating a relationship that fosters healing, growth and change.

I welcome a discussion to explore whether we might be a good fit and/or to schedule an initial session. Please feel free to request a different time/day if the one(s) listed don't accomodate your schedule.
