Professional statement

Lisa M. Hoffman is a psychotherapist in Massachusetts where she welcomes individuals (beginning at age 16) and couples. Some of the people with whom Lisa works enter treatment when they are in crisis. These triggering crises may be related to relationships, trauma and/or loss. Others contact her when they feel ready to make significant changes in their lives.

Lisa has over 25 years of advanced training in psychodynamic/relational psychotherapy. Her style combines insight-oriented, behavioral and holistic approaches and is tailored to meet the individual needs of each person/couple and situation. She is warm, empathic, caring and engaged. She is a dedicated clinician and committed to co-creating a life-changing therapeutic experience. She also possesses a blend of wisdom and humor.

Lisa's educational background includes attending Laguardia Arts High School in New York City, SUNY Brockport and Antioch/New England Graduate School. Throughout her career, Lisa has worked in a wide-range of settings. She has worked on psychiatric crisis teams and in community mental health centers. She has worked extensively with children, adolescents, adults and families struggling with substance use disorders, abuse and neglect. She has also worked in various inpatient and outpatient settings treating adults and couples. In her practice, Lisa enjoys working with individuals of all ages. She particularly enjoys working with college students, healthcare workers, first responders and families of first responders, people in the arts as well as people who present with trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety and/or illness.

Message to clients

Whether you are currently in crisis and/or have been wanting to unravel and alter unhelpful and possibly destructive life patterns, I welcome your contact. I work with both individuals and couples and have expertise in a wide-range of areas. These areas include, but are not limited to: relationship conflicts, mood disorders, trauma, chronic or acute medical conditions (including cancer and autoimmune diagnoses), caregiver challenges, LGBTQ+ related struggles, issues related to social justice as well as addiction. When appropriate, I encourage adjuncts to psychotherapy such as movement, arts, pursuit of passion, nutrition and related self-care.

I recognize how courageous it is for some to seek mental health treatment. We will go at a pace that is both comfortable and challenging, with my utmost respect for who you are and what you are bringing to me now. I prefer to work at a deep level paying close attention to your unique needs and goals. The connection that develops between us is central to the growth and healing that takes place.

I welcome a discussion to explore whether we might be a good fit and/or to schedule an initial session. Please feel free to request a different time/day if the one(s) listed don't accomodate your schedule.
