Manuela Stalman is a Licensed Master Social Worker and psychotherapist based in New York City, where she was born and raised. She received her MSW from the Columbia School of Social Work and specializes in trauma-informed, strengths-based care. She has experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety, recovery from trauma or violence, life transitions, and relationship and interpersonal conflicts. Manuela identifies as White and Latina, and is a native Spanish speaker as the daughter of two Argentine parents.
Manuela became a social worker and psychotherapist following a career shift from the world of art and design. After extensive training as a jeweler and goldsmith, Manuela found herself connected with the stories and milestones that brought clients into her studio. She transitioned into the world of social service by way of working with older adults and the Deaf and hard of hearing community.
At Columbia, Manuela spent her Advanced Year Clinical Internship working with survivors of violence ages twelve and up at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, offering a wide range of services including safety planning, crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy. This experience shaped the foundation of her clinical and relational approach as she experienced firsthand the depth of healing that can come through processing immense trauma.
Applying an integrated approach depending on the needs of her clients, Manuela draws from relational and psychodynamic therapies, incorporating tools from somatic therapy, mindfulness practices, internal family systems and cognitive behavioral therapy. She considers social, emotional, psychological and cultural dynamics, and is interested in the ways systemic structures affect the process of identity formation.
Manuela is only seeing clients remotely via telehealth at this time, and offers psychotherapy in both English and Spanish.
