Professional statement

Martina is a mental health counselor specializing in OCD and anxiety disorders. As a person with OCD and anxiety herself, she is acutely aware of the challenges of living with and treating these disorders. Martina utilizes Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD. She was trained in this at the Center for Anxiety and Behavior Therapy. She also utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for anxiety as an additional treatment for OCD. She holds two masters degrees, one in Clinical Psychology and one in Mental Health Counseling. Martina sees NY clients virtually. Martina's sessions focus on practical solutions to get you back to living your life.

Message to clients

If you're struggling with anxiety or OCD, I know how badly you want to be free of your anxious thoughts and feelings. I've been there, too. The trouble with anxiety, though, is that the more you avoid scary situations or let the anxiety control your decisions, the stronger it gets. In sessions with me, you'll learn to approach your anxiety head-on, telling your brain that it doesn't need to listen to anxious thoughts. The best part of this is that if you do it enough, your brain gets the message and the anxiety gets quieter.

I've been through Exposure and Response Prevention therapy for my own OCD, which makes me acutely aware of two things. 1. The treatment is hard and uncomfortable and 2. The treatment works. There is absolutely a way out of this if you're willing to put in the work!

I also know how much shame living with OCD or anxiety can cause, and address the whole person in session. There's so much more to you than your OCD or anxiety.

I have a frank but caring manner, and humor is always welcome (and encouraged!) in session. I'd love to work with you and get you back to the kind of life you want to be living.
