If you're a gay, bisexual, or queer man trying to make sense of something about sex, desire, or relationships, Matthew Phillips works with exactly that. His clients tend to be men stuck somewhere specific: sexual self-esteem that took a hit and never recovered, desire that's gone quiet in a long-term relationship, changes in sexual functioning, open relationship dynamics that feel harder in practice than they looked on paper, or a sense that something about their sexual self still hasn't fully landed. He also works with couples of all orientations and genders.
Sessions feel like a real conversation. Matthew holds opinions, asks direct questions, and doesn't talk around the hard stuff. His approach is relational and attachment-informed, drawing on emotionally focused, cognitive-behavioral, and somatic frameworks depending on what a client actually needs.
He is also one of a small number of therapists in Connecticut offering ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), in partnership with Journey Clinical. KAP can be a meaningful option for clients working through depression, anxiety, or trauma who haven't found sufficient relief through talk therapy alone.
Matthew holds a PhD in Human Sexuality and is a licensed clinical social worker in Connecticut, New York, and Florida. He serves on the board of Stamford Pride. His office is located in downtown Stamford, CT. Matthew sees clients in person and via telehealth across CT, NY, and FL. He works on a private-pay basis with documentation available for out-of-network reimbursement.
