Professional statement

Dr. Medisa Payvarpour is a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of Bay Area ACT Center. She works with adults who may appear high-functioning externally while internally struggling with anxiety, burnout, grief, difficult life transitions, perfectionism, and emotional overwhelm. Many of her clients are professionals, caregivers, creatives, and individuals navigating high levels of responsibility while feeling disconnected from themselves, stuck, or emotionally exhausted.

Her work is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an evidence-based approach that helps clients develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and internal experiences. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, Dr. Payvarpour helps clients build psychological flexibility so they can move toward a life that feels more meaningful, authentic, and aligned with their values. She integrates warmth, collaboration, and insight with practical tools that support lasting change.

Dr. Payvarpour has extensive experience working in both public mental health and private practice settings. Throughout her career, she has worked with individuals facing anxiety disorders, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, and chronic stress. She strives to create a therapeutic space where clients feel safe enough to be honest with themselves, deepen self-understanding, and begin making meaningful changes in their lives.

She offers therapy both in person in the Bay Area and virtually throughout California. Her approach is thoughtful, compassionate, and direct, with a focus on helping clients reconnect with themselves and build a fuller, more intentional life.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you are someone who is used to holding everything together for everyone else. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and high-functioning, but internally feel overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, or emotionally exhausted. Therapy can be a space where you no longer have to carry all of that alone.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in authenticity. I do not believe you need to become a different person to heal. Instead, we work toward helping you develop a healthier relationship with your thoughts, emotions, and experiences so you can move toward a life that feels more meaningful and aligned with who you truly are.

I know how important it is to find the right fit in therapy, and I would be happy to connect with you to see whether working together feels supportive and aligned for both of us.
