Professional statement

Michael Klimis is a mental health counselor in New York City, working with clients in the city and throughout the state. He specializes in working with LGBTQIA+ populations, older adults, people encountering life and work transitions, health challenges, and grief. He is currently seeing clients via Telehealth only.

Michael works with Intentional Wellness Psychotherapy, a New York City based practice. He uses an eclectic approach to therapy, blending several modalities to assist clients in establishing a curiosity about themselves. He collaborates with them on solutions for any conflicts or complexities they are encountering.

Michael is a first generation Greek-American and member of the LGBTQIA+ community who recently changed professions from the Workforce and People Team industry to Psychotherapy during the pandemic. He is committed to providing a space where clients of all intersecting identities and backgrounds can feel empowered to steer their lives in the directions they want to go.

Message to clients

Searching for the right person who you can trust will listen to you and work with you on difficult challenges in your life can be a very daunting experience. You're leaning in the direction of change, but you may not be exactly sure where to go from there. I can help you take the next step.

I'm here to support people of all backgrounds and lived experiences, and as a queer therapist, I'm passionate about helping members of the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies. I have additional experience in helping people dealing with grief, long-standing health conditions or new diagnoses, issues relating to aging populations, men's issues and masculinity, and major life transitions.

Perhaps you are someone who has just come out to your family and you're feeling uncertain about your future relationship with them. Maybe you are dealing with an especially stressful new role at work and you're noticing some imbalances that weren't there before. You could be in a stage of life where your thoughts are increasingly more concerned about the results of a routine blood panel ordered by your doctor. Or maybe you're newly retired and reexamining your life, values, desires, and purpose. I will sit with you, collaborate on processing your most trying moments, and we will identify strengths to help build the more confident, joyful, and authentic life you've been waiting for.
