Professional statement

Mitsue Karaman is a licensed psychotherapist offering culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy for multicultural individuals, professionals, and couples in California and New Hampshire.

Many of her clients are thoughtful and self-aware, yet find themselves holding a great deal—managing expectations, navigating complex identities, and continuing to move forward even when something feels off. Over time, this can present as burnout, emotional fatigue, or a sense of disconnection from oneself or from important relationships.

At the heart of her practice is a deep respect for the unique experiences that have shaped each person, and her approach is guided by how her clients move through the world. Her work is shaped by her multicultural upbringing as a third culture kid, her Japanese heritage, and her experience as an immigrant Asian American. She also brings over two decades of experience in global corporate and tech environments, informing her understanding of the pressures many professionals navigate.

Her approach is integrative and trauma-informed, incorporating somatic, relational, and experiential modalities, including EMDR and PACT when appropriate. Therapy is collaborative and paced with care, with attention to both internal experience and the broader cultural and relational contexts that shape it.

She offers telehealth sessions in English and Japanese.

Message to clients

Therapy can be a space to pause and feel more fully present with yourself—especially if you are used to moving quickly, holding a lot, or making sense of things on your own.

At the heart of my practice is a deep respect for the experiences that have shaped who you are, and my approach is guided by how you move through the world.

In our work, we may slow down to notice what is happening beneath the surface, emotionally or physically, and explore how past experiences continue to shape your responses in the present. This allows insight to be not only understood, but felt and integrated.

I approach therapy as a collaborative process, guided by your pace and what feels most important to you. My hope is that this becomes a space where you feel supported in making sense of your experiences, and in moving toward a way of relating to yourself and others that feels more steady and sustainable.

I look forward to connecting with you.
