Professional statement

Nina Gilbert is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience helping clients heal from disordered eating, substance use, family dysfunction and unhealthy relationship patterns. She is an expert in the treatment of eating disorders and later in her career, became specially trained in couples therapy.

Before opening her private practice, Nina worked at the Renfrew Center and Walden Behavioral Care (now Monte Nido) helping adults recover from disordered eating behaviors. She soon discovered that recovery is more than normalizing a relationship with food. It was the pain in our relationships, whether they be romantic, social or familial, needed to be addressed for her clients to feel truly whole again.

Nina completed extensive couples therapy training at the William Alanson White Institute and The Couples Institute, as well as several years in close case consultation with renowned couples therapist Dr. Virginia Goldner, featured on the Showtime series Couples Therapy. She sees couples in her practice and she invites clients to bring in partners and support people to their therapy.

Nina is located in the tri-state area and currently provides therapy via Zoom to clients in Texas, Connecticut, and New York. Clients who work with her often describe their experience as transformative and deeply impactful, noting meaningful improvements in both their relationships and overall quality of life.

Message to clients

I play an active role in the therapy process and I help you feel empowered to make the changes you want in your life. I am direct, yet compassionate, and I use my training and expertise - not just my intuition - to help you get where you want to go. I hope my energy and presence become an anchor in your week.

For couples therapy, I periodically provide additional written analysis after sessions to help you better review our work together and share my recommendations in writing.

For those in recovery, there is not a one size fits all approach. . .Although supportive therapies can be essential, they are not always requirements for people to make the changes they wish to see.

I treat each client's therapy journey as unique, requiring its own treatment plan and special care.
