Professional statement

Rachel Allen, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with women navigating caregiving stress, illness, insomnia, and identity shifts. She provides therapy for those who appear “put together” on the outside but feel drained, disconnected, or stuck on the inside. Many of her clients are balancing careers, family responsibilities, and invisible labor—often while facing their own health challenges—and are looking for therapy that is both compassionate and practical.

Dr. Allen’s approach is collaborative, direct, and deeply attuned to the interplay between mental, physical, and emotional health. Drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), she tailors each session to the client’s needs and goals. Her work often integrates nervous system regulation, sleep-focused interventions, and strategies for reclaiming energy and a sense of self. She creates a space where clients can set down the weight of holding everything together and focus on what truly matters to them.

With a background in health psychology and years of experience in integrated medical and behavioral health settings, Dr. Allen brings expertise in the complexities of chronic illness, pain, and the impact of caregiving. She is licensed in Pennsylvania and New York, and also practices in all PSYPACT states, allowing her to work with clients across most of the U.S. Her sessions are offered via secure telehealth, making it possible for clients to access consistent, high-quality care from home.

Dr. Allen’s goal is to help clients move from a state of constant “pushing through” to living in a way that works for the life they have now—restoring energy, clarity, and connection along the way.

Message to clients

You don’t have to have it all figured out before you reach out. Many of my clients come to me feeling exhausted from “pushing through” and unsure where to even start. Whether you’re navigating a life that looks nothing like you planned, carrying the weight of caregiving, living with illness, or just trying to feel like yourself again, we’ll sort it out together.

I know firsthand how complex it can be to care for someone you love while also trying to care for yourself. My lived experience as a caregiver informs my work as much as my clinical training—it’s given me a deep understanding of the hidden emotional, physical, and logistical toll that caregiving can take, and the importance of having a place where you don’t have to be “on.”

Our work will be practical and collaborative, with space for you to be honest about what’s hard and intentional about what you want to change. I’ll bring evidence-based strategies, a deep understanding of the mind–body connection, and a willingness to adapt our work so it fits your life—not the other way around.

You don’t need the perfect words. You just need to start. If you’re ready to step out of survival mode and into a way of living that actually works for you, I’d love to meet you.
