Specialty:

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing may confer certain benefits because it does not demand verbalization of details of the event nor does it include systematic homework…

In studies of combat veterans (Ironson, Freund, Strauss, & Williams, 2002), self-reported distress generally decreases during the first session of EMDR, whereas it may increase during prolonged exposure therapy…

Twelve sessions of EMDR with veterans resulted in a 77% remission of PTSD with no dropouts (Carlson, Chemtob, Rusnak, Hedlund, & Muraoka, 1998). Positive effects were reported on multiple measures at posttest, and effects were maintained at 3- and 9-month follow-up as published in:

JOURNAL OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY: IN SESSION, Vol. 64(8), 947–957 (2008) & 2008

EMDR is not used to remember or to forget it is used to disentangle emotional and sensory reactivity with related events and triggering stimuli.
