Professional statement

Russ works with clients from diverse backgrounds, experience and interests. In choosing to work with Russ as your therapist, you will feel welcome and can be assured of receiving care that is none judgmental and considerate of who you are authentically, with the upmost attention to why you came to therapy and what goals you would like to achieve.

Russ often utilizes a variety of methods based on client needs, indicators and goals. Russ often uses EMDR, parts work, values informed work, body centered psychotherapy, principles grounded in mindfulness, and CBT in his practice. Russ is an LGBTQ+ allied therapist. Early in the therapy process, we will explore what brought you to therapy and then explore the most appropriate ways to help you make the progress who want.

Russ is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Mental Health Counselor who has earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from a CACREP accredited program at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado in 2007. Russ has been working as a Master Level therapist and clinician since 2007. Russ is licensed to practice in both Colorado and Utah. He holds a Certification in Ecotherapy via Wilderness Reflections in Marin County, California. Prior to entering graduate school, Russ worked for over 17 years in the human service field after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Human Services from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

Russ offers both in person session via his office in Cortez, CO and tele/video session in his practice for clients residing in Colorado. Russ does not have an office for in person therapy in Utah, and clients residing in the state of Utah should inquire about tele/video session in most cases.


Message to clients

I believe that everyone can change, grow and heal at any time in their lifespan. I believe that everyone has the capacity to understand and embrace meaningful, purposeful life participation. I believe that all people deserve equal respect and consideration all areas of life.

I grew up in SW Colorado and have lived there most of my life. I have a deep sense of appreciation and place within its spacious landscapes. I built my own eco-friendly, rammed earth home that utilizing both passive and active solar design. I have a strong interest in sustainable living, and innovative designs and solutions. I love music, being outdoors, backpacking, hiking, staying in shape, and practicing yoga. I am most content and inspired when exploring natural places and environments.
