Professional statement

Ryan works with individuals and couples who feel they are falling short of their full potential. His practice is particularly suited for clients who find themselves impeded by unconscious conflicts or recurring patterns that hinder their personal and career goals. Ryan helps these clients bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be, moving them from a place of frustration or stagnation toward a life of greater meaning and fulfillment.

His approach is grounded in psychodynamic, relational, and experiential perspectives. Unlike the stereotype of the "silent" analyst, Ryan is an active participant in the therapy room. He operates as a collaborator—warm and compassionate, yet direct and rigorous—sharing his observations and insights to help clients break through barriers. By cultivating a dialogue between the conflicting parts of the mind, he helps clients identify the defenses that may have once protected them but are now holding them back.

Ryan’s background blends rigorous clinical training with holistic practices. He is currently a candidate in the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Training Program at the renowned William Alanson White Institute and holds post-graduate training in psychoanalysis from two IPA-accredited institutes. Additionally, his work is informed by his training in mindfulness and yoga, allowing him to integrate somatic awareness into the psychological process.

Ryan maintains a private practice in Brooklyn Heights. He offers in-person sessions and remote therapy to accommodate the needs of his clients. He invites prospective clients to reach out to schedule an initial consultation.

Message to clients

My approach is grounded in the idea that therapy is a collaborative, creative process between therapist and client in which the two, together, engage in a rigorous, honest, and nonjudgemental exploration of the often conflicting and contradictory parts of the client’s mind. My experiences have taught me that engaging in an open-ended, inquisitive, honest dialogue in therapy cultivates increased insight, self-awareness, and a deeper connection to one's emotional life which can facilitate healing and recovery from depression, anxiety, compulsive and impulsive behavior, debilitating (“toxic”) shame, and other obstacles to a rich and fulfilling existence.

Contact me for a complimentary phone consultation. I reserve limited spots for reduced-fee clients as well. Apply if you believe you may be eligible. Engaging in an inquisitive and honest dialogue with the self in therapy can be a challenging and rewarding journey that brings about deep insight and lasting change.
