Professional statement

Sarah Unertl is a licensed professional counselor associate who works with adults and couples who are seeking deeper connection, healing, and a better understanding of themselves and their relationships. Many of her clients feel stuck in painful relational patterns, overwhelmed by anxiety or emotional stress, or disconnected from themselves and the people they care about most. She has a special interest in helping clients explore how early relationships, attachment wounds, and past experiences continue to shape present-day emotions, behaviors, and relationships.

Sarah’s approach is warm, relational, and collaborative, blending insight-oriented therapy with practical tools that support meaningful change. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relational Life Therapy (RLT), attachment-focused work, somatic awareness, and trauma-informed care to help clients better understand themselves while building healthier patterns in their daily lives and relationships. She believes therapy should feel both supportive and honest — a space where clients can feel emotionally safe while also being gently challenged toward growth, healing, and deeper authenticity.

In her work with couples, Sarah helps partners improve communication, rebuild trust, strengthen emotional intimacy, and recognize the protective cycles that often keep couples feeling stuck or disconnected. She also works with individuals navigating anxiety, burnout, life transitions, relational trauma, and difficulties with boundaries, self-esteem, or emotional regulation.

Sarah provides therapy in a supportive and down-to-earth environment where clients can feel comfortable showing up fully as themselves. Sessions are available both in person and remotely, offering flexibility and accessibility for individuals and couples seeking compassionate, relationally focused care.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you’re used to carrying things on your own or trying to “push through” difficult emotions. My hope is that therapy becomes a space where you no longer feel like you have to do that alone. I want clients to feel safe showing up honestly — whether that means bringing anxiety, relationship struggles, grief, anger, uncertainty, or parts of themselves they’ve learned to hide or protect.

My approach is warm, relational, and collaborative. I believe meaningful change happens when people feel both supported and gently challenged. Together, we will explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, while also building practical tools to help you feel more grounded, connected, and emotionally secure in your daily life and relationships. I integrate approaches such as CBT, Relational Life Therapy, attachment-focused work, and trauma-informed care to tailor therapy to your unique needs and goals.

More than anything, I hope therapy helps you develop a deeper understanding of yourself with greater self-compassion, clarity, and confidence. Healing is rarely about becoming someone entirely different — often it is about learning how to reconnect with yourself in a healthier, more authentic way.
