Professional statement

Dr. Tanya Singh is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in anxiety, OCD, and complex trauma, with a style that balances directness and honesty with genuine compassion. Many of the people she works with are thoughtful, reflective, and conscientious, yet find themselves stuck in cycles of overthinking, intrusive thoughts, self-doubt, and emotional overwhelm. Although they may appear to be doing well on the outside, internally they often feel exhausted, disconnected, or unable to break recurring patterns.

Many of her clients have tried therapy before and found that while symptom-focused approaches offered some relief, they did not fully address the deeper patterns keeping them stuck. Dr. Singh approaches therapy from the belief that many symptoms and survival strategies make sense in the context of a person’s experiences. Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with you?” therapy begins by asking, “How does this make sense?”

Depending on the individual, her work draws from CBT, ERP, Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT), coherence-informed therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic and embodiment approaches, and metacognitive strategies. The goal is not simply symptom reduction, but helping people better understand themselves so meaningful, lasting change becomes possible.

Dr. Singh also offers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) for treatment-resistant anxiety, depression, and longstanding patterns that have remained difficult to shift, as well as therapy for spiritual identity, existential questions, and spiritually transformative experiences. She approaches these experiences with both psychological grounding and genuine openness.

Dr. Singh holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Montclair State University. Her research training included Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and her clinical training included Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital and Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. She provides virtual therapy for adults in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and all PSYPACT states.

Message to clients

Being human is not simple. It can feel overwhelming, confusing, and at times deeply uncomfortable. Most of us find ways to cope with that discomfort, and those ways often make sense at the time. Over time, however, they can become patterns that leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or caught in cycles we can’t seem to break.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve spent a long time trying to understand yourself or simply trying to feel better. Together, we’ll work to understand how these patterns developed, what they may have been protecting, and what they may be communicating now. As that understanding deepens, your relationship with yourself often begins to shift.

My approach is both practical and process-oriented, and I tend to be active and collaborative in session rather than a silent presence. I am direct and honest as well as compassionate, which means I’m not here simply to validate, but to help you see yourself more clearly without judgment or shame. We may use concrete tools to help you feel more grounded while also slowing down to notice what is unfolding in real time.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, OCD, trauma, or questions of identity, meaning, or spiritually transformative experiences, my hope is not simply to help you feel less distressed, but to help you move through life with greater clarity, steadiness, self-trust, and a deeper understanding of yourself.

Specialties

Anxiety - Anxiety can feel overwhelming and all-consuming, but it is also workable. I help clients understand their anxiety, build tools for self-regulation, and shift their relationship to fear, control, and uncertainty.

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) - OCD often stems from deep fears and a need for certainty or control. I support clients in learning how to navigate intrusive thoughts with more freedom and compassion, using evidence-based approaches like IFS and exposure-based work.

Life transitions - Major life changes can shake our foundation and bring up old patterns. Whether you’re navigating a career shift, relationship change, or inner transformation, I help you move through transitions with clarity, self-trust, and integrity.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy - For those navigating deeply entrenched patterns or treatment-resistant conditions, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy can support deeper insight and movement. I offer preparation, integration, and guidance throughout the process in a grounded, intentional way.

Spiritual Integration and Existential Concerns - Sometimes therapy is about more than symptom relief—it’s about reconnecting with something deeper. I work with clients exploring spiritual identity, existential questions, and the search for meaning, drawing from both psychological and contemplative traditions.

Self-Worth & Inner Criticism - Many clients I work with struggle with harsh self-judgment and a deep sense of not-enoughness. Together we soften those patterns, strengthen the connection to your inherent worth, and develop a more compassionate internal dialogue.
